About European Atheists Alliance

European Atheists Alliance is a advocacy subsidiary organization of Atheists Alliance International committed to raising awareness and educating the public about atheism in Europe.

What We Do

European Atheists is dedicated to advancing the civil rights of atheists, promoting separation of religion from government, and providing information about atheism.

Over the last fifteen years, European Atheists has fought to defend the separation of religion from government with legal actions, lobbying the federal and state government, and engaging in protests and other public actions to ensure that the rights of atheists are protected.

Members of European Atheists and Atheists Alliance International staff are frequent guests in media to defend our policy positions and advocate for the acceptance of atheists throughout the Europe.

European Atheists is home to one of the largest collection of atheist and freethought literature in the world. Our Atheist Library and Archives makes available to researchers and members of the public one of the most comprehensive collections of atheist publications from the late 19th century onward.

We have built a robust and diverse community of more than 170 local partners and affiliates across the continent and work with advocates, activists, and coalition partners in more than 50 different nations internationally.

European Atheists provides resources to those seeking information about atheism, the history of freethought, religion, and mythology, and maintains a speakers bureau for colleges, universities, clubs, and the media.

Activities

Community-Building

AAI recognizes the value of social communities and the importance of providing a strong and protective foundation for individuals, families and groups.  In addition to promoting and encouraging the formation of new atheist organizations, AAI supports international outreach and community-building programs.  The organization supports its affiliates and other groups through local campaigns, conferences and other projects.

Education

Education is fundamental to  Atheist Alliance International.  Only by educating the public, can atheism be normalized and seen in a positive light.  AAI supports its members and the public in the acquisition of new knowledge by:

  • Providing news on atheist/secular issues and campaigns through the AAI website and social media.
  • Publishing Secular World magazine.
  • Hosting atheist conventions with local groups around the world. These conventions provide the opportunity for communities to hear from established and new atheist speakers.
  • Supporting educational projects, such as the Kasese Humanist Primary School in Uganda.

Advocacy

Atheist man’s hands clasped together through a high fence.

Basic rights, justice and social responsibility form the foundation of what it means to be human.  AAI works to defend and protect the rights of atheists and like-minded people by publicizing relevant issues, distributing media releases, developing policy statements and cooperating with other groups to bring issues and injustices to the attention of media and governments.
